Oktoberfest - September 26
Our annual Oktoberfest is coming soon! Here are the details:
Saturday, September 26
We're open from Noon - 8pm
Live Music from 1-4pm by the Elk River German Band
Cover charge is $10 per person includes a hot plate of German food prepared by Nancy's Country Kitchen from Grantsburg, WI. Food will be served all day, starting at noon.
The menu consists of pork tenderloin, sauerkraut with carraway and apple, hot German potato salad and dark Russian rye bread (made by Smoland Prairie, Grantsburg).
Nancy will also have delicious desserts available for an additional charge. We ordered lots of food this year, so you can even purchase seconds!
Wear your lederhosen and dirndl because we'll be having a costume contest!
There is plenty of free parking. We will be serving wines from Austria, Germany and a new wine from Idaho! Not a wine drinker? That's ok too as we'll have a beer tent with a couple beers on tap.
Come early for a seat or bring a lawn chair or blanket! Hope to see you here on the 26th!

September 15: The Process of Making Wine
Attendees will sip on some wine while they learn
about the growing of grapes, what "late harvest"
means, the characteristics of oak vs. stainless steel
fermented wines, how "pink" wines are made,
different wine regions and their regulations,
and what gives them those headaches they
might receive after drinking wine.
September 29: Wine Tasting Basics
Attendees will enjoy a lovely evening where
we will sample wines and discuss the
characteristics of different grape varietals, the
proper way to see, smell and taste wine,
glassware styles, and serving and storing
temperatures - we'll take the mystery out of wine
as we discuss the basics of food and wine pairing.
October 13: Throwing a Wine Tasting Party
Attendees will have fun while they try new wines
and learn the basics of reading a wine label
(what is “Reserve”, and does it mean it's better?),
getting the right supplies for the party, and picking
out the best cheeses and foods for a variety of
wines. We'll even spice it up a little bit and show
you how to throw a "blind tasting" party where
you and your friends are guaranteed to have a
night filled with laughter!
November 10 - Holiday Entertaining
Attendees will learn some tricks of the trade
when pairing wine with holiday meals.
Trade River Winery will provide some delicious
treats (and send you home with the recipes)
which are perfect for serving to a crowd.
Attendees will also receive a special discount on
wine and wine accessories which make the
perfect hostess or holiday gift. Gather your
girlfriends and make a night of it!

Tonight's Tapas Menu
Tonight from 5-7pm we will feature Portugese food and wine pairings. The menu sounds delicious! Here it is:
*Baguette with olive tapenade
*Imported cheese with figs
*Portugese bean salad
Paired with:
*Costa do Pombal - a blend of white grapes, this wine is from Pinhao, Portugal. It is dry, round, smooth and well balanced. Pairs well with salads, fish, pasta and risotto.
*Damasceno Rose is a blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Aragones grapes. On the palate it is young, fresh and very fruity. This wine hails from Poceirao, Portugal.
*Pontval Trincadeira/Touriga Nacional is from Alentejo, Portugal and is a blend of the unique portugese grapes Trincadeira and Touriga Nacional. It has a deep ruby color with flavors of mature fruits. Very smooth and easy to drink.
$10 per person.

Grecco's in St. Croix Falls, WI will soon be launching Chef in a Box, so when you can't get to Grecco's you can have it delivered at home! We have been selected to be the wine purveyor for his program. Chris will be at Greccos' this afternoon for the filming of the how-to videos which will be included in the Chef in a Box. Stay tuned for more details!

Headliner quartet for 2009 is named Storm Front
It has been quite a journey for the 2010 International Quartet Finalists. The 2002 Rocky Mountain District champs have made seven trips to the International contest stage, including Top 10 placement each of the past six years.
For these four guys, the love of barbershop and great entertainment has blended to create show-stopping performances. They have been blessed to see so much success in such a short time. They are thankful to all the chapters and individuals who have supported them and are most especially thankful to their families and friends for the love and encouragement they provide.
They hope you can come to see them perform at the Unity High School with the Indianhead Chorus on October 10, 2009. Show times are 2 PM and 7 PM. For tickets, call Ken Mettler at 715-483-9202 or email him at kbmett@hotmail.com or get them at Trade River Winery!

Friday at the winery, we are open from 2-8pm. From 5-7 pm we will serve Greek Meze paired with premium greek wines. The menu includes Domades (stuffed grape leaves); Mediterranean Olives; Fresh Tomato with Feta Cheese and Pita. Wine pairings include Lafkiotis Moscofilero (white), Lafkiotis Kleoni (rose), Lafkiotis Agiorgitiko (red). Only $8!
Friday in Rice Lake, WI Nicki will be at Burnell's Decor sampling out wines during their "Afternoon with the Arts" event. 2-4 pm.

Meet the Winemaker in Wabasha - Wednesday
Vinifera Vine & Dine is hosting a special winemaker’s dinner this Wednesday, June 17th with Jon Phillips from Inspiration Vineyards. Come enjoy a California inspired four course chef’s tasting menu paired with four of Jon’s fabulous wines. Dinner will begin at 7:00, but come early to meet Jon and talk about wine.
